La Jolla Surf Lessons
What Attracts Surfers to La Jolla Shores?
La Jolla is one of the most photographed beaches in Southern California; just being surrounded by such extraordinary beauty is relaxing and exhilarating. The underwater park, while adding to the beauty of the beach with the diversity of marine life, is also the reason for the waves breaking rather gently; making it ideal for surf lessons especially for beginners.
With a rich surfing history that dates back to the 1900s ever since the Olympic swimmer and surfing pioneer George Freeth introduced the sport to Southern California; the surfing community and culture are vibrant and lively.
La Jolla also provides easy access to amenities such as restrooms, showers, parking, and nearby shops and restaurants.
Best Surfing Seasons at La Jolla Cove
During the Spring and Summer seasons, the waves are usually gentle and consistent, ideal for novices who appreciate these forgiving conditions to enhance their technique. During late summer and early fall, substantial and orderly south swells combine with Santa Ana winds to create stunning offshore walls and barrels, which would attract intermediate to good-level surfers. However, the largest swells originate from the north between December and February, resulting from winter storms in Alaska. Seasoned surfers await such times for a greater, more challenging adventure.
La Jolla Cove's Quiet Tide Times
Like all the Beaches, the San Diego area is renowned for, La Jolla also has an expansive sandy shore. However, La Jolla stands out due to its North and South edges which are rugged shorelines; with numerous small caves along the shore and tide pools that become fully visible during low tide. This area is usually secluded during those times. Check the tide charts to follow the 12-hour tide cycles, this way you can see the tide pools and surf in tranquility.
