He’s one of the youngest surfers ever to win a Pipeline Masters; he’s an actor and producer, award winner, and loads of fun too. Meet Jamie O’Brien, also known as JOB.Embed from Getty Imageshttps://embed.gettyimages.com/embed/1657226?et=fXwGkF3UTh1ruWQVd-Mpnw&viewMoreLink=off&sig=0HILNXi4mA_Lvga-5BUVniKC_cu3rRquJpuV_CdZoVA=&caption=true
Jamie has been fortunate in his personal life as well as his professional life. He was lucky enough to grow up near the Banzai Pipeline on Hawaii’s North Shore with a dad who worked as a lifeguard on the beach. He also attributed his time on the beach with his father as a huge reason he ever got into surfing at all.
JOB is a great technical surfer, winning several prestigious events. But his fans love his innovative ways of using a surfboard to perform moves and stunts that no one has tried before. One recent adventure sponsored by Red Bull even included JOB riding the infamous Teahupoo while lit on fire.
On top of being a straight-up daredevil, JOB is driven to succeed at everything he does. He has acted in two Hollywood films including Blue Crush with Michelle Rodriguez and produced two surfing films of his own. Then there are the YouTube videos. The season 5 finale episode of his Red Bull video series, Who Is JOB? Has gotten over 163,000 views since October with tons of excited reviewers begging for more.
There are plenty of reasons to look at JOB with awe and respect, but the best thing about him is that he wouldn’t want you to. Jamie is about as down to earth as you can get and high on life. His world revolves around surfing and making it more fun, and more fun to watch, for everyone. Never forget, as Jamie says, “There is not one right way to ride a wave.”
