Surf, Play and Where to Stay in San Diego

With San Diego crushing the charts from one of the best places to live to the top 15 places to visit in the US-it’s a no wonder this has become a prime destination for honeymooners, business conferences, spring breakers, Holidays and staycations. From surfing, to beaches, musical festivals, sightseeing at Balboa, or visiting the world famous San Diego Zoo-San Diego just about has it all, and with plenty of sunshine to share. While the agenda might be set, a common FAQ when visiting San Diego, is not just where to surf and play, but by far “where is the best place to stay?”

Beachside Bungalows & Botique Hotels

With over 70 miles of coastline, there are plenty of great beachside bungalows and boutique hotels for the quintessential beachside experience. With 360-degree views of the pacific ocean, these beachside accommodations have you right in the epicenter of the San Diego culture-easy strolls along the boardwalk, to hanging out at the local coffee shops and feet away from the beaches. Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and La Jolla are our recommended beach towns when looking for the beachside experience. A few of our favorites in Pacific Beach include Tower 23 and Pacific Terrace Hotel are within walking distance to Law Street Beach-for surf lessons with San Diego Surf School –and offer an exceptional experience, as well as score a 10 for location right in the heart of Pacific Beach.

 Downtown’s Gaslamp district

Downtown San Diego, otherwise known as the Gaslamp District is located steps from the Convention Center, Petco Park, and the San Diego Bay. With plenty of hotels to choose from, including Sofitel, the chic Pendry Hotel, family friendly and business savvy Marriot Marquis-the Gaslamp just simply doesn’t disappoint. Spend the day with an easy fairy ride to Coronado Island, or enjoy browsing the local boutiques and eateries. This is a popular area of local conventions and access to San Diego’s top sightseeing, from Seaport Village to Balboa Park.

Carlsbad

Approximately 30 miles north of downtown San Diego, is the town of Carlsbad. It’s known for great surf, popular Tamarack beach, Legoland, and the Flower fields to name a few attractions. This nice, quiet, family friendly town is a local favorite for camping at South Carlsbad State Beach, as well as a recommended quaint boutique hotel Carlsbad Inn located in the downtown district and right along the infamous pacific coast highway.
